Teachers and students of Hickam Elementary have been enjoying their first-ever three-week winter vacation, but that will come to an end (*sniff*) in a few days. It'll be good to see everyone again, bright-eyed and rejuvenated, and ready to jump into the third quarter of school of a brand new year.
Four new slide shows have been posted on our school's website, including pictures from our incredible Winter Concert.

Oh wow! A three week winter vacation?!? I thought that was big when i returned to the mainland!! I guess things are changing back there!
My name is Kate Cerra, i attended Hickam Elementary my 3rd and 4th grade years ('98-'99, '99-'00) and had Mr. Maekawa and Mr. Chatani respectively. My father worked to get some playground equipment for the school.
I can't believe its been so long since i attended! I still remember our spring festival songs and dances! I was there during the filming for the movie Pearl Harbor and i remember running outside to see the planes fly over our heads and they dug that big hole infront of the water tower for a 15 sec shot! I swam for the Hickam Hurricanes in the pool on the roof near the church. Hickam was by far my favorite school i attended and i miss living on the islands so much! (Although i'm surely a houle(sp?) now...)
I think i will be visiting the islands again soon, since i am a Junior now in highschool.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Kate
Hi, Kate!
Thanks for signing in, and sorry we didn't reply earlier. I'll let Mr. Maekawa and Mr. Chatani know that you stopped by.
Yes, things are finally changing around here, the schedule/calendar being one of them.
I'm glad you have such fond memories of Hickam Elementary School and that you'll be visiting Hawaii again soon. Maybe you could stop by in person..?
Aloha!
PS: I think I just remembered you! I'm the computer teacher, and because I see so many students come thru the lab, I don't always remember them when I leave. But I think it just came to me!
Hello!
My name is Kevin LaPointe and I attended Hickam for 1st through 3rd grade. I have a bad memory and sadly cannot remember my 1st grade teacher. My second grade teacher no longer teaches here though *tear* But my third grade teacher was Mrs. Kawakami.
Please let Mrs. Kawakami I said hello.
I now live in Pensacola, Florida and attending a local college.
I've also been wondering, I had a good friend of mine in my first grade class, and she lived near my house but my family moved away and I now don't have any contact with her, and have been wondering how she is doing. Is there anyway Hickam can help me get contact information?
Please email me boardoxmage@cox.net

Thanks for stopping by, Kevin!
I hope Mrs. Kawakami writes to you soon. As I mentioned in my email to you, I think I was teaching 3rd grade at the time you were in her class, but while I can recall your name, I can't recall your face..and the grown-up prom picture you emailed me sure doesn't job my memory! :)
Congrats on entering college early, I'm sure Mrs. Kawakami would be proud of you!
I attended Hickam elm from '88-'92 for grades k-3. Mrs Hayashibara (sp?) Was my k teacher, Mrs Booth for 1st, Ms Hebert for 2nd grade (my sister had her for 5th the year before), and Mrs Kawakami was my 3rd grade teacher. Are any of them still around? Mrs Booth was a military wife, and I know she moved around the same time we did, but I think all the rest were locals.
